"Why did you buy this thing?"
-local Jaguar shop owner
After a too-short decision-making process, here it is. It's a 1995 Jaguar XJR with a Maaco paint job, unknown mileage, various broken or swapped bits of interior trim, nearly bald summer tires, and as of right now it doesn't run. However, it has a working manual swap, which is all that matters. Said shop is trying to make it run, and I'm ordering a whole bunch of maintenance and repair items online so within a reasonable amount of time it should be a runner.
By the way, that leak in the front is washer fluid, rather than the usual British coolant or oil.

I wish there was a Maaco around here so I could get my car painted cheap.

Does this have the 4.0 6 or had they moved to the v8 by this point?
or do i remember a supercharged 6? the engine that made it into the db7?
if its a NA 4.0, those engines are fairly bulletproof. and once you do get it sorted i'd imagine many many miles and smiles.

It's the supercharged 4.0 L 6; the transmission is allegedly from a DB7 but I can't verify, and the DB7 had a smaller-displacement 3.2L version of that six. Hopefully it's something straightforward like the crank sensor.

well that sounds really sweet. supercharged 4.0 6 plus manual transmission.
i think the conventional wisdom on these cars from that era, is to go through every wire, switch, fuse and relay, and systematically change underhood wiring, scuff and grease connections, and replace relays/fuses, one by one, until the entire system is sorted. then you'll have at least a few years of solid reliability in store for you. the engine/mechanicals are fairly robust.
sweet color too.

This one was actually quite Ford-influenced, so many of the electrical and accessory parts are sourced from places like Denso and AC Delco; apart from normal wear items, it should be pretty solid. Plenty of wear items though, and I'll need to do a lot to bring it back to glory.

I remember seeing this on the Raleigh/Durham craigslist a few months ago, had a friend who was looking for a car. I tried to push this thing on everyone I knew who loved cars, but with no takers. Hope you're enjoying it
